I work with the intention of going beyond myself and the narrative of my everyday life. I make work with the intention of dissolving boundaries, working with my shadow and creating a little more beauty in the world. I am interested in the human figure but my work also reaches into abstraction and I am interested in work which bridges such cultural binaries. I am not interested in conducting fixed narratives, but more in how pictures can survive without the Artist- how they are adopted or coerced by others and how their meaning changes in different arrangements and as they grow further away from the moment of their conception. Sometimes the work I make does not fit with other things I am working on, but much later I will see why it was necessary. Other times I might outgrow a particular subject and then later it demands my attention. My work also attends to the good and bad weather of the emotions that come from the precarious life of being an artist where we both ask ourselves to remain open and vulnerable, but also hardened to the hard capitalism of the art market and the weirdness of making art at all in a world that is already full of too much stuff.
